What Organizing and Getting Your Hair Colored Have in Common

When we see super drastic before-and-after photos or picture perfect results from a professional organizer or interior decorator, it can be easy to think that it’s a one-and-done kind of service.  But it’s not.  It’s an on-going thing that requires maintenance.

Organizing is a lot like getting your hair colored… The immediate after is A-MA-ZING and gorgeous.  You feel like a rockstar when you walk out, and your stylist/hair whisperer has done their magic.  But hun, if you don’t touch it again for 6 months, well, it’s just not going to look the same as the day you walked out of the salon.

Both hair coloring and organizing are processes.  They require touch-ups to maintain that Insta-worthy look.  So whether you want to take some time out to do a little TLC and get things back in order, or want your professional organizer to come back in for a “refresh,” maintenance will save you time and money in the long haul.  Just like doing a brand new color is going to be more expensive than a root touch up, an initial organization session will cost more than a “refresher” session.

Remember back in January’s post about quick fixes, we discussed how a small, 30-minute sprucing is better suited for a day when you can’t tackle a huge project?  Well, sis, a refresh of an already-organized space can be that fast… But give it 6 months, and you might want to pencil in some extra time.

Hiring a professional hair colorist or professional organizer also has some major perks.  Both are experts, so they can execute the end goal more quickly, freeing up your time to do other things.

Doing my own, long, thick, curly hair is NOT relaxing.  Ever.  But having someone else wrestle… er, work their magic... on my tresses?  No tired arms.  No spilled product on the floor (that now requires an additional chore: cleaning).  Just absolute relaxation.

Similarly, hiring a professional organizer or professional decorator means that you’re not getting distracted or off-task on the job.  It is pure efficiency, so you can tend to whatever other demands on your time and attention exist… Or reclaim some time for YOU.  Professionals have honed their skills to come up with custom plans and designs for your needs quickly, and they usually deploy a team, expediting the job, too.

Can you color your hair or organize and decorate your space on your own?  Absolutely.  But how many tries will it take to get the right look doing your own hair?  How many times will it take to get the right shade?  Or what about highlights?

How long will it take to do a complete overhaul of your kitchen? Or garage?  Can you tackle it in a matter of hours? Days?  Is your layout plan in place before you begin, or will you spend a lot of extra time shuffling things around to make it all fit?

Our biggest tip?  Work smarter, not harder!  And find as many ways to reclaim your time as you can.  You are worth the investment.
