Are you ready to Get Organized this New Year?

Now that the holidays are over and hopefully the Christmas décor is all put away, we can focus on getting things organized again. After all, the new year is the perfect time to make getting organized a priority!
Every week this month, I will be sharing with you a simple guide of areas in your home that you should take some time out to declutter and organize.

I know the thought of taking on your whole house can seem daunting but my advice to you is to break down your goals into manageable tasks and pace yourself. Take on one space at a time perhaps start with the one area that stresses you out the most and get it out of the way. When you do this, you’ll realize that you are indeed putting a dent in what seemed like the impossible and before you know it, you will have managed to declutter and organize your home one space at a time.

January has since been declared the official Get Organized Month by the National Association of Professional Organizers in 2005 so last week, we kicked off our “January Get Organized Month” with the heart of the home, the kitchen. We decluttered cabinets, drawers, cleaned out the refrigerator, organized in the pantry, made some major edits under the sink and got rid of all broken and unused items.

Letting go of these items and regaining your space back is the perfect way to enter 2022!

So how do you begin?

In the refrigerator toss all old, expired food. This one might sound obvious but it’s a great place to start. Now that the organizing blood is pumping, we can move on to tossing out stained and unmatched tupper ware as well as mis-matched drinkware, cooking utensils and flatware. It’s important to remember to only keep what you actually use for functionality and to maximize on the space you have. It serves you no purpose to hold on to stuff you don’t need or will never use, the rest is just unnecessary clutter.

I shared a sentiment in my article in MARTHASTEWART.COM published on January/3/2022 about letting go of items in the kitchen that I want to share with you. It said,

I recommend that folks consider donating duplicate kitchen items that essentially serve the same purpose such as knives, cooking utensils and serving ware.

It’s easy to just push that mug over and grab your go to cup, but why even deal with the clutter? Save yourself the time, create space for items you may actually want to replace.

As we head into week two of our decluttering challenge, our focus will be on bedrooms and bathrooms. Check back next week for all our tips and tricks for these spaces!
